When you browse the web, it is necessary for the server to gather certain information in order to serve you a website. This information is stored in a log on the server and is overwritten as the file gets too large or a specified time period has elapsed.
This information includes but is not limited to:
- Your IP address
- Your User Agent string
- Date and time of your access
- The page that you requested
- The status code of your request
I use a hosting provider who is required to keep this information for a period of time. I doubt that this will happen with my website, but they may be required by law to disclose this information to law enforcement.
I apply very basic processing to this information in order to see the country the people accessing my website are from.
The information that I access and process for my own records are below:
- Your public IP address (so I can see recurring visitors)
- The country that you are accessing the homepage from (based on the ip address)
- The time that you accessed the page
- The referrer url (the site that you came from)
This additional processed information is for my own benefit and is not shared with anyone. I do not use this information for marketing or serving adverts and I do not use a third party tool for this information processing.
There may be locations on the site which request the 'upload' of an image or other file but these pages do not upload your images and all processing is done on your local device unless it says otherwise on the page.
